Janice L. Metzel, a native Atlantan, is a nationally and internationally recognized artist. Her award winning art works have been selected for juried and invitational exhibitions in the United States, Europe, and Australia. Her works are widely collected by both individual collectors and such select corporate clientele as; Coca-Cola, Oscar de la Renta, Reebok, the A.S.K. Learning Center, the William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum and Emory University Hospital. Her art works have been featured in Luxury Home Builder, Innovations Furniture showroom homes, and the Atlanta Homes Show.

The art works Metzel creates are conceptually based and encompass a wide range of media, including but not limited to; interior and exterior sculpture, jewelry, painting, drawing, printmaking, book arts, glass arts, and assemblage. Her primary emphasis has been in sculptural forms; working in all metals, cast and fabricated, as well as hand-carved woods, cement, stone, glass, plastics, sound and light. The artist selects the media best suited to the conceptual expression of each work of art in the early phases of conception.

Miss Metzel has received and completed several grants and artist residencies with the National Endowment for the Arts, the Georgia Council for the Arts, the Heart of Georgia Program, Grassroots Arts, the International Visual Art Works Exchange, and the Creative Arts Guild.

Devoted to technical excellence in her execution as well as the conceptual component, her art works are also often quite humorous and whimsical, providing us a look at ourselves in our day-to-day lives.

Artist statement:
"My art works are conceptual. A primary theme in my work is the concept of passage or transition. I aspire to portray moments of transition and passage that depict movement from one place to another, as well as, one plane to another, ie: from darkness to light, from blindness to insight, from turmoil to tranquility. Passages which depict or inspire personal growth, of a spiritual, emotional, or intellectual nature.

I hope that my works strike a chord within the viewer which transports them to a state of resonance, or empathy. By revealing our common experiences of passage, each work has the potential to extend far beyond itself."
